This is the standard art set given to every fairy on their first day of beginning watercolor lessons. If you begin with the best it is an easy matter to do well. Most humans do not understand this and give their students the most atrocious materials to begin with. I am utterly appalled and repudiated by it! A great deal of frustration stems directly from not using the right materials. You say, “but I cannot afford to test the high quality supplies!” Now see here:

  • we will give you paints better than Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolor (my great great grandfather taught him how to make those paints and ours are exactly the same, but we add some special magic to give your paintings the je ne sais quoi you are looking for in your art);

  • we will give you 8 colors to sample, (which at a minimum would cost you $80 to purchase the smallest human size quantity of Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors);

  • we will give you a full package (24 sheets) of the highest quality cotton paper (Arches cold pressed), in regular fairy size sheets - (this type of paper in human sized packages is sold at a minimum cost of $20 and only has 12 sheets per package);

  • We will give you our largest handled fairy size brush, although we assume you have your own human size brushes to use anyway;

  • And we will let you try the difference with our supplies for only a tenth of the cost to try it with human sized materials! 


So you have no excuses. If you must learn with cheap art sets go out and learn with Crayola paints on index cards. You'll have plenty of success there in understanding the basic concepts of watercolor painting. As soon as your work looks better than dancing pig prints, you will be ready to move on to the professional stuff.  Skip the garbage.
